- She has entered into active politics through bye-elections in 2000 following the death of Sri. P. Indra Reddy in a road accident. She was elected as MLA from Chevella constituency.
- She was subsequently re-elected from the same constituency in 2004 General Elections.
- She was made the Minister for Information Technology, Mines and Infrastructure.
- In 2007, she was made the Minister for Mines and Geology, Handlooms and Textiles in the Cabinet reshuffle.
- She has contested from Maheswaram constituency and got elected as MLA in General Elections in 2009
