Following are Smt. Sabita Indra Reddy’s instilling views and strategies on the some of the significant initiatives of government, as Home Minister.



  • On challenge of handling Home Ministry
  • “It is so thrilling that I have become the home minister, a post once held by my late husband Indra Reddy. I am extremely thankful to the Chief Minister for this,” a visibly ecstatic Sabita remarked as news broke of her appointment.

    “I have never imagined even in my dream that I will be made the Home Minister. This only showed the Chief Minister’s faith in a woman’s capability. I shall live up to his expectations and discharge my duties efficiently,” Sabita said.

  • Facing Terrorism and Extremism
  • She has warned that whoever indulged in or encouraged terrorism, would be dealt with ruthlessly. In this connection, she said a National Security Guards unit would begin full-scale operations shortly.

  • Curbing Crimes on Women
  • She extolled that curbing terrorism and crimes on women would be her top priority. She expressed that she is going to introduce stringent measures and precautions to face the menace of extremism, terrorism and crimes against women.

  • Law and Order Situation
  • The Home Minister said there was considerable improvement in the Law and Order situation in the State under the leadership of Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy. She expressed that the law and order situation was well under control in the state over the last five years. She has specially complimented the State Police for “doing a wonderful job” in the last five years. She revealed that her department will look into strengthen policing to make it more people-friendly.

  • On the issue of Ragging
  • “I know their problems and can offer solutions too. Issues like ragging will also be tackled and a helpline will be provided to check the menace” said Sabita Indra Reddy. “I also understand day-to-day problems faced by the women. We are going to come up with a special law to tackle the menace of Ragging” she added.

  • Women Help Line
  • Home Minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy announced that an exclusive helpline with a toll-free telephone number will be set up to deal with complaints of atrocities and violence on women. The helpline would respond to all complaints of domestic violence, eve-teasing and atrocities.



  • More women into Police Force
  • She also revealed that she is going to induct more women into Police Forces and thereby setup more Women Police Stations across state.



  • On Naxal-Problem
  • Mrs. Sabita said the naxalite problem was “greatly controlled now” so much so that the Central Government was citing Andhra Pradesh as a model to other States to emulate. She has appealed to the remaining cadre of naxalites to join the political mainstream.
